A customer reached out to us concerning a fault with their Komatsu grader, noting that the engine was overheating after just 10 minutes of operation. Without delay, we loaded up one of our mobile breakdown service vehicles from our Geelong workshop and headed out to Cressy to investigate the issue.

Resolving an overheating issue on Komatsu grader

Upon arrival, we conducted a thorough inspection of the machine and discovered that it was low on coolant. After replenishing the coolant, we took the grader for a test drive. However, after 20 minutes of driving, we observed it still overheating and leaking coolant. Further examination revealed a faulty radiator cap, preventing the cooling system from pressurising and sealing properly, thus hindering its effectiveness.

Returning to Geelong, we promptly sourced a replacement radiator cap and returned to the site. After fitting the new cap and topping up the coolant, we conducted another test drive, this time for 30 minutes, confirming that the cooling system was functioning correctly.

While on-site, we also took the opportunity to clean out the radiator, which had accumulated some dirt. After a quick inspection, the grader was deemed fit for work again, much to the satisfaction of our customer, who appreciated the swift resolution of the issue.
